212 IRB-approved studies in gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition are currently underway at Riley Children’s. Study topics include: ■ ImproveCareNow: IBD quality improvement, along with multiple IBD clinical trials ■ TRIUMPH: Clinical trial of immunosuppressive therapy for pediatric acute liver failure ■ Multicenter National Institutes of Health (NIH) trials for pediatric liver diseases (NASH, drug-induced liver injury) ■ EoE clinical trials using biologics or orally dispersible fluticasone ■ Medical decision-making Basic science and translational research projects funded by the NIH include: ■ Mechanisms of liver-heart communication during heart failure ■ Understanding liver signals during fasting metabolism to treat obesity ■ Modifying urea cycle function to treat fatty liver disease
Gastroenterology (GI) and hepatology specialists at Riley Children’s Health provide expert care for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), liver disease, obesity, allergic eosinophilic GI disorders, motility disorders, cystic fibrosis, short bowel syndrome, aerodigestive disorders and nutritional disorders.

PROGRAM DISTINCTIONS
Specialized programs Disorders of Gut-Brain Interaction Program
■ Ranked among the top 15 pediatric gastroenterology programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report
Launched within the past year, this program uses a multidisciplinary (GI, psychology and nutrition), multi- modality approach to treat children with functional GI disorders such as IBD, rumination and functional nausea. Eosinophilic GI Disorders Program This program offers multidisciplinary management of allergic intestinal diseases. > READ about our program’s new TNE technology. Aerodigestive Program Leveraging multidisciplinary expertise, our program coordinates evaluation and management of airway and esophageal disorders. IBD Program Following more than 500 children with IBD, Riley pediatric GI subspecialists provide expert care, access to novel therapies, research drugs through ImproveCareNow, and nutrition and psychological support. A new education program is available for newly diagnosed children and their parents. Parenteral Support and Intestinal Rehabilitation (PAIR) Program The PAIR program provides access to novel lipids for children with intestinal failure and new medical therapies, including intestinal growth factors. > READ about the PAIR team’s national recognition from ASPEN. Pediatric Liver Program Our team provides expert diagnosis and management of children with a variety of liver diseases, including elevated liver enzymes, fatty liver, viral hepatitis, cholestatic liver disease, metabolic liver disease, hepatomegaly and neonatal jaundice.
■ Home to leading multidisciplinary programs for: – Intestinal rehabilitation – Eosinophilic disorders – IBD –Weight management – Aerodigestive disorders – Motility – Liver and pancreatic disease – Celiac disease – Disorders of gut-brain interaction ■ Availability of the latest technologies, including transnasal esophagoscopy (TNE), IB-Stim, FibroScan, EndoFLIP, gastric pacemaker and point-of- care intestinal ultrasound ■ Two pediatric GI psychologists dedicated to treating psychological conditions related to GI disease
