Fatal Flaw
By Kait Rosenfeld
I cannot keep a garden — My thumb is frost-bitten, A killer of life, A slayer of seeds And sprouts. This fatal flaw That stifles the soil, Makes the vegetables shrivel, Makes the petals wilt, And makes the air turn sour With decay.
But I can plant Words Line By Line
Column by column — I can write a garden for you.
I can pen testimony of Our love, Instead of planting tomatoes, Track how it grew, How we climbed our vine And stretched into the sunlight Together.
I can transcribe the onset of Your laughter,
