Family Grown
By Kira Lamarre Herbert
Dedicated to my grandmother, Venelda Clement Lamarre
Their house was shaded by Two enormous sugar maples Burying the fluctuating truth In autumn’s leaves. Still golden treasure grew. His house was rickety with Seeds he sowed over her Whilst never forecasting care-less arrivals and departures. She alone stood building roots. Her house was sheltered By limbs, then branches, reaching forth Diligently building lives Connected, kind, and shining bright Despite past shadows. Their houses were far reaching. Her roots nurtured growing families. Beyond the shade, he cast. Respected. Renowned. Remarkable. Rooted golden family grown.
