Part II: The Graceful Flight in a Field that feels like Home
By Kasey Stecher
Behind the metal fence You’ll find him: my golden-eyed child. Dirt-scuffed and sweaty.
Throw and retrieve. Throw and retrieve. Throw and retrieve. Leather scented left hand-callus worn right hand. My golden-eyed child Graceful and fast. Bright smile and determined brow. Devices discarded- forgotten for the sun’s call of the bat and the ball. Of the hand me down glove. Of the worn and tattered “fast shoes”.
My golden-eyed child. Learning to love Competition. Growing to understand Perseverance. Feeling through that frustration to patience.
Outside the kitchen window You’ll find him.
Wait and connect. Wait and connect. Wait and connect.
