My Little Cheetah Boy

By Mayra Rivera

My little cheetah boy did not sit in a chair or use walking feet. When he started so many years ago, he had no words, Understanding only words spoken in Spanish. He moved on all fours, climbing the furniture like the mountains, Eating with his hands and making gestures for his needs and wants. My little cheetah boy playing alone.

By the next year, my little cheetah boy had grown by leaps and bounds. He walked on two feet and used his words and his voice to express himself. Building relationships, having crushes, and making sure to sit next to his friends. He laughed and talked about his beautiful mama with love in his voice. But every now and then, I still see my little Cheetah boy with his mischievous smile. On all fours, he runs to his teacher and gives her a hug and runs off laughing to join with his friends on adventures imagined by my little cheetah boy.
