March 2025 TPT Member Magazine

A NOTE FROM SYLVIA At TPT, we are honored and privileged to serve as a trusted storyteller that reflects and responds to the needs, aspirations and interests of our communities. From “Almanac” to “Relish “to “Minnesota Experience,” we offer unique local and statewide content, all freely available. We rely on support from local members and donors, area foundations and corporations, as well as state and federal funding. We are deeply grateful for this investment in our public service mission. One example of TPT leading the way to create national programming right here in Minnesota is “Skillsville,” our latest children’s animated series. Premiering March 3 on PBS KIDS, “Skillsville” invites kids ages 4–8 to combine career exploration with fun, allowing our young viewers to explore essential life skills such as focusing, planning and perseverance. For more on this imaginative new project, please turn to pages 6-7. March is also Women’s History Month, when we take time to reflect on women’s pivotal roles across history, culture and innovation. One program we are particularly proud to present is the debut of “Finding Her Beat” on March 24, a powerful documentary chronicling the journey of an all-female Taiko drumming troupe. As I finish this note, it is early February, and we’ve recently learned that federal funding for public media is at risk. These funds are essential in allowing us to deliver accessible local content, including critical health and safety information, across our five channels. Federal funding also supports our ability to be with you in community and to bring our programs to life with community partnerships that provide high quality, trusted resources to viewers of all ages. Thank you for your generosity to TPT. If you value the entertaining and educational programming and services TPT provides to Minnesotans, please use your voice to make sure that our elected officials in Washington, D.C. and here at home understand the critical importance of public media to local communities. Together, we have the opportunity to shape a brighter and more informed future for generations to come.
