IN EARLY 2019, M&P MECHANICAL’S SENIOR MANAGEMENT TEAM MET TO DISCUSS THE COMPANY’S NEXT STEPS… Diversification and foreign fields

W ith thousands of housing units delivered, M&P Mechanical saw an opening to offer an aftercare service; and so a maintenance division was born. Looking for a person to fill the lead role, Mark O’Rourke MD sat down with Ultan Toner, who had started out his plumbing career with M&P Mechanical. No easy task and with a growing number of customers and referrals, the maintenance division quickly expanded into a large team. With the success Mark was experiencing, the Dublin office had to triple in size. The company now needed a full-time Purchasing Manager to lead the team in the office, and Sarah Phelan - who started with M&P in 2016 - was asked to step in to the role. Expanding into new space, investing in technology to streamline the back of

house systems and increasing project sizes, meant that cash management was key to the backbone of the company. Accounts Manager, Elaine Ward, needed assistance - a new Financial Manager was needed, and Mark hired Niamh O’Rourke, his daughter, to fill the role. To cater for the growing technical demands for the projects, the engineering and CAD team increased. To keep an eye on the standard of information going through the Engineering Department, Kyle Murphy, Senior Engineer, took the lead. Having being placed with the company during his time in college, he was a welcome asset when he finished college and joined M&P Mechanical full time. And with more space, came bigger plans. Having had great success with WeWork, COO, Anthony O’Conaill

was asked to travel to Germany and appraise some local work in Berlin. In a short time, the GmbH leg of the company was formed. Through 2019 and early 2020, M&P Mechanical started to find its feet in the German market, delivering four office fit-outs and looking to expand further. FUTURE POSITIVE It is evident by the high level of staff retention from the early days along with the great family atmosphere at the 10-year anniversary celebration, that Mark has built more than just a business. With such a strong first 10 years and with Mark’s young family now in key positions within the company ready to take it forward in years to come, M&P Mechanical is a company to watch in the future.
