Riley Children's Health Annual Report – October 2026

Highly trained neurologists at Riley Children’s Health use the latest tools and therapies to diagnose and treat the most complex neurologic disorders in children. Our team manages numerous specialized multidisciplinary services, including programs for muscular dystrophy and refractory epilepsy. NEUROLOGY

RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS

Riley neurologists are engaged in clinical research related to the following: ■ Myostatin inhibitors for spinal muscular atrophy ■ Deep brain stimulation for drug-resistant seizures in children ■ Catastrophic antiphospholipid antibody syndrome in children with strokes ■ Genetic epilepsies in children ■ Acute necrotizing encephalitis in children Basic science research Makram Obeid, MD , is involved in a research study investigating the efficacy of TAK242, a TLR4 blocker, against epileptogenesis and cognitive decline following traumatic hemorrhage in a novel repeated closed-head injury model.
