EVERLASTING THINGS by Dr. Walter L. Wilson H ave you ever thought about the things that are everlasting in

Everlasting mercy is for us. If it weren’t true then God would have to condemn us from His presence for ever. But praise His name, the Lord’s mercies fail not. Have you ever thanked and worshipped Him for His everlasting mercy? David said, “I trust in the mercy of the Lord forever and ever.” If this great man needed to trust in this manner, how much more should you and I. The Lord wants you to love, trust and believe Him all the time. Another beautiful everlasting is salvation, found in such passages as Isaiah 45:17 and 52:7. Then, of course, in the New Testament there are those blessed promises in John and other portions. The Saviour died for all of our sins. There is nothing in the world that will save except the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. All our iniquities were laid on Him (Colossians 2:13). When God forgives your sins, He blots them all out and gives you eternal life for ever. It will never come to an end. There will be no falling away. Then there is everlasting kind ness such as is suggested in Isaiah 54:8, “But with everlasting kind ness will I have mercy on thee.” Things go wrong in everybody’s life. This is true in the family, the busi ness, the church, the human body. Our loving Lord will graciously bear with us and often put up with us providing sufficient love and grace. He is not willing that any should perish as well as not being willing that any should be disappointed or frustrated. He wants us to know Him so well that we will follow His perfect will for our pathway. Yet, still He shows us His kindness even when we do wrong. In II Thessalonians 2:16, we read, “Now our Lord Jesus Christ him self, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given 20

the Bible? It is an interesting sub ject. There are lots of things that wear out and have to be replaced, such as clothes, the automobile, and right down to the very homes in which we live. The first thing I want you to think of is the everlasting arms of our blessed Lord. In Deuteronomy 33:27, we read, “The eternal God is thy ref uge, and underneath are the everlast ing arms.” This speaks to us of peace, rest and confidence. Some times I have taught people to swim and to float. I have them lie down on the top of the water and put one arm under their neck and one under their hips, telling them just to relax. But they are usually afraid to do it. Too many Christians are like that, aren’t they? But in my case, I get tired and eventually have to let go, how ever, not so with the Lord Jesus Christ. He will never let you down. When the way is long and lonely, you, as a believer, can rest on those ever lasting arms at all times. In Isaiah 53:1, we find the inter esting question, “To whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?” When a little baby gets tired running around the house, it comes for rest in its moth er’s arms. Soon it is fast asleep. This is the picture of the Lord saying, “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He does exactly that. Leave things to the Lord and be rid of all your fretting. Another everlasting is found in Psalm 100:5, “For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” How often we have to confess our failures. We sin against God in thought, word, and deed. There are sins of omission and of commission; sins of pride and self-sufficiency.
