GOD'S PERFECT WILL by Dr. Walter L. Wilson V ery few C hristians realize the tremendous responsibility which
singing birds, and all the rest, but he doesn’t want the One who makes them all possible. This man was saved when he saw what a fool he was. The Saviour gave him new life. You see, the “oracle” of God is one who tells the truth to another person. In Ephesians 5:8 we read, “Ye were in darkness but now are ye light in the world.” Philippians adds, “Among whom shine ye as lights in the world” (2:15). A Christian, we discover, is a light. Now this doesn’t say that he gives light for there is a difference. A lamp gives light but it isn’t light. You can turn it off and when it is turned off it doesn’t shine. Consider the lightning bug which has phosphorus in it causing it always to shine. You can’t exterminate this light. Crush it on the sidewalk it will still shine. Throw it in the garb age can and it will shine in the alley, too. You can’t keep it from doing this. God says that this is what a Christian is like. God Himself takes up His dwelling place in the Chris tian to make him light. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” When He comes to live in your heart you shine forth for Him. Let me ask you, is this true in your life? Do others know you are a Christian? A man came to my house at mid night in deep trouble. I led him to the Saviour and I asked, “Where do you work?” He told me where and I remembered that there was a Chris tian in that same factory. I asked him if he knew this man and he re plied that he did. I said, “Well, why didn’t you go to him to be saved? Why did you come to a stranger?” He said, “I work right at the next bench to him and I never knew he was a Christian.” That man was an elder in one of the churches and yet few, if any people, at work knew of his belief. Where was this man’s light? God expects us to shine as
is theirs every day. No doubt you are already a believer by virtue of the fact that you are reading this book. But do you know what God’s will is for your life? In I Peter 4:11 we are told that if any man is to make an authoritative utterance he is to speak as the oracles of God. This means that we are to talk as God’s own messengers. This is simply one who tells the truth about the Lord; one who is His salesman. It is one who speaks no matter what the result is and no matter how much it hurts. I spoke to a great giant of a fellow one day who was an atheist. He said, “I don’t believe God will send any body to hell. I wouldn’t have that kind of a God!” I said to him, “What do you think God will do with those who live in wickedness and sin? Do you think He is going to take them to heaven? The Bible says God is Love.” “Oh, yes,” he said, “I be lieve that. I’ve heard that expres sion. God is love and that’s the kind of a God I believe in.” I reminded him of the vast number of men who seem to enjoy cursing and swearing, drinking and carousing, who would be miserable if God made them go to heaven. If they couldn’t endure one hour of Christian ministry in a church somewhere, how could they get along up there? “Well,” he said, “I don’t think they’d feel very much at home.” “No,” I replied, “I’m sure they wouldn’t. God is love. Do you think that when they die, they are going to be transported into a place that is all holiness? God loves them too much to make them suffer hell in heaven. He wouldn’t do that.” He saw the light. The person of the world wants God’s gifts of health, strength, lov ing friends, flowers, water, sunshine,
