Invest North: Unlocking the North

Our Head, Daphne Doody-Green was delighted to join a panel at Invest North’s virtual conference - sponsored by EY - to address how the North can bounce back post pandemic. As part of this, she urged employers to prioritise and invest in the health and wellbeing of workers, in order to benefit from a more productive, engaged workforce. Daphne was joined on the panel by EY representatives, along with Simon Holden (Group Chief Operating Officer at City Fibre) and Stephen Church (UK market leader for the North), who chaired the panel. It attracted an impressive turnout of over 1300 CIPD students and early career professionals, not only from the North and wider UK, but also from Europe, the Middle East and North America! Supporting carers in the workplace

April

With an estimated 3.7 million working carers in England and Wales, a growing number of people are playing a dual role in balancing their jobs with their caring responsibilities. To help employers create a culture that supports carers in the workplace, we held a ‘Supporting Carers in the Workplace’ webinar which proved popular, having attracted over 300 views. Our speakers included Claire McCartney (CIPD Diversity & Inclusion Advisor) Catherine Wilson (head of employers for carers) and Mary Bright (Special Adviser to the Business Champion for Older Workers).

Launch of Soft Skills in Hard Times

We joined forces with ACAS and the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter to produce an insightful guide -’Soft Skills in Hard Times: the importance of good people management’ - full of resources for line managers to strengthen their people management skills. We followed this up with a collaborative podcast on ‘Why good people management matters’, which explored how employers can help their people achieve a better work-life balance and improve their health and wellbeing. Together, the guide and podcast have attracted close to 900 downloads.

The session sparked some heart-warming discussions around the growing demands on carers and the need for employers to step up their support and is still available to watch here.
