Northern Conference drives the good work agenda
Our first online CIPD Northern Annual Conference proved a huge success, with close to 400 delegates joining us to hear from a range of inspirational speakers - from organisations such as Kellogg’s, Talk Talk, Northumbrian Water Group and IPPR North – on driving the good work agenda. CIPD President, Cary Cooper FCIPD, a highly regarded psychologist from Manchester Business School, gave a compelling closing keynote, asking us to think more strategically about workforce mental health.
Launch of CIPD North: Regional Insights
We launched a new quarterly update for northern members - known as ‘CIPD North: Regional Insights – which has a growing readership of over 36,000 subscribers. Established to give our members a voice and share best practice on driving better work and working lives’ in the region, each issue features regional news along with spotlight interviews with the region’s most inspiring members. The success of The University of Chester’s annual Diversity Festival was covered in our launch issue. It attracted thousands of delegates, with more than 60 inspiring speakers, including Our Chief Exec, Peter Cheese, along with football legend and antiracism campaigner John Barnes and Joeli Brearley of Pregnant Then Screwed.

Yorkshire’s Returner Champions
HR leaders share ways of working
Our Parentworks Hub launched, with a range of advice and resources to help employers make their organisations more inclusive for parents returning to work (‘parent returners’). The hub features insightful case studies and testimonials from HR professionals in Yorkshire and Humber that took part in our Parent Returner Programme, from organisations such as Burberry, Morrisons, Northern Gas Works and Yorkshire Building Society.
Our HR Leaders Network engages the top of the profession in a peer network, to shape conversation and thought leadership on the future of the profession, and the world of work. We delivered a peer to peer Senior HR Leader session on ‘ways of working’ to support leaders in sharing and learning from one another about the impact of remote working and scenario planning for the months ahead.
