White Paper: Pharma Manufacturers Prioritize Automation, Remote Access Over the last year-and-a-half pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers have shifted their operational prior- ities to focus on efficiency, productivity, automation and health & safety, according to the Packaging and Process- ing – Coming Through COVID-19 white paper produced by PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies. The need to invest in new packaging equip- ment is strong with 84 percent of survey respondents indi- cating increased investment through 2021. Automation is high on the agenda in many sectors, in- cluding pharmaceutical and medical device manufactur- ing. Process automation has many longer-term benefits in terms of speed, efficiency and increased productivity. When asked about plans for investment in automated ma- chinery, one third (31 percent) of respondents said they are currently using, and will continue to use, automated machinery as a substitute for appropriately qualified man- power. Another 30 percent said they had plans to intro- duce automation for that reason in 2021. One thing the white paper makes clear: even if pharmaceutical compa- nies have only added automation in response to the de- mands of the pandemic, these changes likely will remain. As pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers continue to navigate the current manufacturing environ- ment, exhibitors at Healthcare Packaging EXPO and PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2021 will display the latest solutions to improve efficiency, productivity, automation, health & safe- ty and remote access. With over 1,500 exhibitors, no other event in 2021 will bring together a more comprehensive gathering of sup- pliers offering new products, technologies and solutions. Healthcare Packaging EXPO offers the widest range of equipment and technology solutions for life sciences, serving as the only event with packaging and processing suppliers showcasing targeted solutions for pharmaceu- tical, medical device, nutraceuticals and biologics along- side crossover solutions from related industries, such as food and beverage. Featuring free education events such as the brand-new PACK to the Future Stage, with presentations by industry experts on advancements such as sustainable solutions, smart packaging and artificial intelligence. The ever-popu- lar Innovation Stage, the Forum and countless networking opportunities at Healthcare Packaging EXPO and PACK EXPO Las Vegas, produced by PMMI, provide opportuni- ties for the more than 20,000 executives and plant manag- ers, engineers, brand managers and packaging designers who come to see machinery in action, connect with suppli- ers, network and gain the latest perspective on a plethora of industries in over 40 vertical markets.
