TRIPS AND VISITS

THAMES YOUNG MARINERS

The annual Year 7 visits to the Thames Young Mariners Outward Bounds centre took place over four days in September. Each visit consisted of two form groups with the aim of the day being for the students to get to know each other a bit better, try something new and have some fun. At the morning rendezvous, the crisp September air told us that the seasons were on the turn from summer to autumn but thankfully, we struck lucky with the sunshine and it was a pleasant stroll from the meeting point at the Teddington Lock footbridge to the Thames Young Mariner Centre in Ham. Once there, our students embarked on three activities: kayaking on the beautiful lake, building and then riding rafts (with varying degrees of success), and working as a team to solve a series of physical challenges. I was impressed by the enthusiasm shown by all of our students as they threw themselves into the activities, and sometimes into the lake, with gusto! We were delighted to receive extremely positive feedback about our students from the Thames Young Mariners staff at the end of each visit and the days provided a chance for the students to do something out of the ordinary and more importantly, an opportunity to build new friendships with their classmates. Well done Year 7! ~Mr Greaves, Head of Year 7
