FINAT’s Label Forum To Confront Challenges

Flexo Market News

I NTERNET D IRECTORY

FINAT’s prime annual event, the European Label Forum (ELF), will take place June 7-9 in Berlin, Ger- many. The conference will launch with an opening keynote address by Michael Jackson, a management expert from South Africa, who will address the chal- lenges of change. One key element of change for the coming years is the Fourth Industrial Revolution, or “Industry 4.0,” as it is often referred to, which encompasses all technolo- gies that connect, exchange data and co-operate with each other, via the Internet of Things, to automate and optimize manufacturing and create smart products that connect with the consumer. Following the keynote, the ELF program will highlight the manufac- turing, product experience and the people’s side of this disruptive evolution, bringing to the stage experts from Porsche Consulting, EVRYTHNG, and Randstad, who additionally engage in an interactive debate with the audience during a closing panel session. Future Of Labels This agenda also takes event participants on a jour- ney specifically into the label industry’s future, fea- tur ing possible scenar ios for its business environment in 2020-2025, and providing a practical context as background information for strategic deci- sion making. For this purpose, FINAT has commis- sioned scenario-planning expert Paul de Ruijter, De Ruijter Strategy to conduct a project over the coming months that will culminate in two parallel interactive workshops during ELF. The second day of the conference opens with an update on the latest market trends and develop- ments. A review of the market for direct digital print to containers by AWA Alexander Watson Associates will be followed by the annual summary of FINAT’s authoritative labelstock statistics and half-yearly mar- ket review, the FINAT Radar. ELF participants will additionally benefit from a special report on a FINAT-commissioned study into the present and future status of digital label printing in Europe from the brand owners’, packaging buy- ers’, and label converters’ viewpoints, prepared by U.S.-based market research agency LPC. The second day will also feature a high-level discus- sion panel in which leaders of three of the world’s largest label companies will reflect on the future of the label industry.Workshop host Paul de Ruijter, sup- ported by co-host and FINAT President-Elect Chris El- lison, will also debate the likely outline of the future landscape for the industry.
