YOUR MINDSET MATTERS POSITIVITY HELPS YOU GET THROUGH TOUGH TIMES
The change of seasons and the beginning of a new year naturally causes us to pause and reflect on the year that has just passed.
world of difference in overcoming obstacles, and this mindset certainly helps us to achieve the best possible outcomes for our clients here at the firm.
From a business owner’s perspective, I am very thankful we’ve been able to expand the firm by opening a handful of new offices across New York state and now in Connecticut. We’ve been fortunate enough to have several skilled lawyers join the Cellino Law family, and it’s been exciting to see how these new individuals and our existing employees have come together to make a well-rounded team. “Facing each new challenge with a positive attitude and a little bit of optimism can really make a world of difference in overcoming obstacles, and this mindset certainly helps us to achieve the best possible outcomes for our clients.” For me, it’s exceptionally meaningful to see the collaboration that takes place, as our long-term employees — some of whom have been with the firm for over 20 years — help our newer attorneys move forward and advance. On a personal level, my wife and I are thankful we have six healthy children, and we’ve just recently welcomed our 10th grandchild into our family. While 10 grandchildren can certainly be a handful, it’s a joy for us to be able to watch them grow, learn, and interact with each other. As I consider my personal and professional blessings, I think about the importance of having a positive mindset. Facing each new challenge with a positive attitude and optimism can really make a
When a client opens a case with Cellino Law, no matter how straightforward or
complex their case may be, they’re relying on us to make a positive impact after their lives have been turned upside down by an accident. We are here to empathize with our clients and support them. As part of that, we’re also here to help with perspective. We never minimize our clients’ experiences, but we try to help them see the big picture. I apply this same mindset to my own life, as I do my best to stay positive and look on the bright side whenever I can. For example, I recently suffered a knee injury that affects my ability to run and play with my grandchildren. But I remind myself that things could be worse. I’m still mobile, and for that, I’m very grateful. I remember playing baseball as a kid. If you stepped up to the plate with bases loaded and hit a home run, there was absolutely no better feeling than that grand slam. As an adult, I get that same feeling when I win a case for a client. Those achievements begin with action, hard work, and follow-through. During the process, those efforts are powered by positivity, belief, and determination. Without a doubt, I can say a positive mindset is crucial for achieving results. We’re always here as zealous advocates for our clients, and we will always put our best foot forward for anyone who contacts us in need of assistance. And with that said, I wish you a very happy and healthy holiday season.

Imagine you’re running through a basic exercise routine. You feel good, so you push yourself harder than usual — and your muscles suddenly start shaking! Every athlete has experienced that moment of panic when tremors hit. But have you ever wondered why your muscles shake? The answer is more complicated than you might think. Shaking muscles can mean at least three things: You’re underprepared for your workout, pushing yourself too hard, or breaking new ground and building muscle! To figure out which option explains your scenario, ask yourself these questions: 1. DID I DRINK PLENTY OF WATER TODAY AND GET AT LEAST SEVEN HOURS OF SLEEP LAST NIGHT? If not, your muscles could be shaky because of dehydration or fatigue. 2. AM I DOING A NEW EXERCISE? If you’ve never done a jump squat or bench pressed 200 pounds, you’ll probably feel shaky the first time you try a full set. That’s because your body is adjusting to the new motions at a cellular level. Simply put, when you start a workout, your muscle fibers tell your muscle cells whether to contract or relax — and those fibers can get tired of doing their job. When one fiber becomes fatigued, your body adjusts to rely on another. Trying something new (essentially, asking your fibers to give new directions) can confuse your body and delay the tradeoff, making your muscles shake. 3. AM I PUSHING MYSELF HARDER THAN I EVER HAVE BEFORE? When you amp up the intensity of your workout, your body will often do more muscle fiber “tradeoffs” than usual because you’re demanding more output. When too many tradeoffs happen at once, that can make your muscles shake. Muscle tremors aren’t always a bad sign. If you’re trying a new exercise or pushing for improvement, they’re part of the learning process! However, if you’re struggling with exhaustion or dehydration, or you think you’re overworking yourself, shaking can be a red flag. Consider reducing the intensity of your workout or taking a rest day. When in doubt, discuss the issue with a physical therapist, especially if you’re recovering from an injury. The Surprising Science Behind Your Shaky Muscles
Sometimes, people end up being perfectly matched with what they do, almost like they were made for their profession.
That’s the way it feels with the newest member of the Cellino Law firm, Justin Bettis, who will be working with clients as a trial attorney.
“I feel like this is where I’m supposed to be,” Justin says with a smile.
He’s not kidding. It seemed that, over time, there was something that kept pulling him into the profession.
“As a kid, I knew I wanted to grow up and be something that was important and that could help with change in the world, so I wanted to be a doctor or lawyer,” Justin remembers. “I wasn’t good at math and I didn’t like blood, so that was an indication.”
Also, Justin recalls being told many times by people as he was growing up that he should consider becoming a lawyer.
“Looking back, I feel like I naturally had the skills of a lawyer and a litigator. I was drawn to the debate team in high school, and I liked being a student leader in college. When I was a kid, people had told me I should go into acting. I always liked to perform, and I liked order, procedures, and arguing for my position,” he says. “I was also always argumentative and never ran away from an intellectual debate. I knew early on I wanted to be a litigator. It’s a high-stakes part of the profession that I love.” Justin brings over eight years of legal practice experience to Cellino Law. He remembers the steps that transpired to lead him to join the team. “I had moved here from Philadelphia and was looking for the next step in my career. Right away, the people here stood out. When I interviewed here with Cellino Law, it felt like I was having a conversation with people I had known for a while,” Justin says. “That means a lot. It is a family firm that approaches what they do in that way. They were interested in my goals professionally and whether they would be aligned with my goals. I’m lucky to be here.”
In his free time, Justin looks forward to time spent with his partner, Samuel, who works as an equine veterinarian.
Away from work, he likes dining out, cooking, and spending time with his family and friends.
It’s our privilege to welcome Justin Bettis and to introduce him to you. We look forward to seeing the positive impact he has on the world around him.

THE DANGERS OF WINTER Slip-and-Fall Accidents Can Cause Serious Injury … and Liability it’s important to understand that you will only have 90 days to file a notice of claim against the city or town in which the incident happened — unlike a slip and fall on private property, in which an injured party typically has three years to file a claim for personal injury.
New York is no stranger to harsh winter conditions, with ice and snow often increasing the risk for slip-and-fall injuries. Slip-and-fall accidents often occur when a walking hazard, such as an icy sidewalk, a snow-logged floor, or a missing handrail, causes someone to lose their balance and fall to the ground. These types of accidents can result in a range of injuries from bruises to fractures or even fatalities in some cases. In New York, property owners are required to maintain their premises, keeping their property clear of hazards that could result in an injury. In other words, anyone who owns private property in New York state (yes, this includes shopping centers and grocery stores) must make a reasonable attempt to keep the premises safe for everyone on their property. For example, if an ice storm is forecasted to hit your area, but your landlord fails to salt the walkways of your apartment complex before or after the storm hits. As a result, you slip and fall while leaving your apartment building two days after the storm, resulting in a fractured tailbone. If your landlord was reasonably able to salt or clear the walkways but failed to do so, then your landlord could be liable for your injury. This same rule applies to owners of public shops like grocery stores and shopping malls. A city or municipality may also be held responsible for a victim’s slip-and- fall injury. For example, if you slip and fall because the city failed to properly maintain its sidewalks or roadways, depending on the circumstances, you may be able to pursue legal action against the municipality for your injuries. However,
You can help prevent injuries from winter slip-and-fall accidents by taking proactive measures. Tune in and stay informed on weather events like sleet, freezing rain, or snow so you can plan your outings accordingly. In instances of potentially icy or slick conditions, be sure to wear footwear with traction and ankle support to reduce the risk of a fall outdoors. Pay close attention to your surroundings if venturing out in these conditions and use handrails where safe and available. Of course, the possibility of a slip-and-fall accident can still exist even with these precautions, particularly if property owners fail to properly maintain their walkways. If you’ve been injured in a slip-and-fall accident, don’t wait to contact an attorney. Our legal team at Cellino Law has the experience and knowledge necessary to help you recover the financial damages you deserve after sustaining a serious injury.
