CASE STUDY: OUTSOURCING HELPS GAME DEVELOPER INCREASE SALES Sales for Bay Tek Entertainment, a leading ticket redemption game developer, were outpacing production forecasts and the company didn’t have enough space to build all the games customers wanted. Instead of extending lead times and potentially losing orders, Bay Tek decided to outsource two games, Pop the Lock and Spin-N-Win, to MCL. Pop the Lock
Spin-N-Win In addition to the success it was seeing with Pop the Lock, a classic game Bay Tek had recently redesigned called Spin-N-Win gained popularity. Orders for the game were outpacing forecast numbers by nearly 65%. Given MCL’s performance on Pop the Lock, Bay Tek turned to its contract manufacturing partner again for help with Spin-N-Win. This ticket-redemption game is much larger than most traditional games, so MCL expanded the production cell and the team of skilled workers needed to do the job. Bay Tek’s decision to outsource Pop the Lock and Spin-N-Win to MCL helped the game developer increase capacity enough to boost sales by $8 million and keep customers happy.
At the time, Pop the Lock was brand new and sales were outpacing forecasting by nearly 90%. Bay Tek partnered with MCL to successfully integrate the game into MCL’s high-volume value stream. Bay Tek supplied the parts, from wires and connectors to the CNC-routed wood for the game cabinet; and MCL provided the skilled workers, space to build the game, and shipping logistics. Within six weeks, MCL went from assembling zero Pop the Lock games to 33 per week. Over the next five months, MCL shipped nearly 500 of the games.
