Striving for social impact and design excellence
When a home is allocated and the keys are handed over, thoughtful design, timely support and accessibility can transform lives.
Following our 2024 Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) Commendation for Urban Design for the Queen Victoria Market (Munro) precinct, this year’s recognition shows a clear trajectory: from precinct-scale placemaking to people-centred homes that make moving in simpler and settling feel supported.
WINNER: 2025 Victorian Architecture Awards (AIA Victoria)
Award winning social housing development on Shiel St, North Melbourne delivered by Housing Choices in partnership with Homes Victoria as part of the State Government’s Big Housing Build program.
Our award-winning and shortlisted projects show how resident-centred design helps people feel welcome, connected and safe from day one.
Successful applicant: Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF), Round 1
Residential Architecture: Multiple Housing
The Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF) is an Australian Government initiative to increase the supply of social and aordable housing across Australia by providing capital funding to housing providers to build new homes. In March 2025, Housing Choices was selected as a preferred applicant under HAFF Round 1 to deliver 625 new homes across Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania. The program highlights our ability to bring well-located, energy-ecient homes online at scale, complementing the resident-centred design recognised elsewhere in this report and strengthening outcomes at the critical opening doors moment of allocation and move-in. These awards and the national grant demonstrate how Housing Choices combines design, partnerships and safeguarding work to achieve design and service excellence. As a sector leader we are opening doors not just to a property, but to stability, recovery and independence.
• 78 high-quality, energy-ecient homes that foster connection and community—supporting smoother move-ins and long-term stability.
• Delivered with Homes Victoria under the Big Housing Build; all dwellings meet LHA Silver, 5 Star Green Star and 7 Star NatHERS.
• Project team: Clare Cousins (design), Kate Paterson Landscape Architects, Buxton Construction.
• Now in contention for the AIA National Architecture Awards.
