Rokeby School 2018

At Rokeby it is our aim to get the best out of every student, therefore we put Learning and Teaching at the centre of all aspects of our work. Our vision is based upon clear and concise values: Respect, Success, Passion for Learning, Personal Challenge and Harmony. In working towards instilling these values in every student, we strive to provide a safe, healthy, stimulating and exciting environment for all. We are very proud to specialise in Mathematics and Languages. We chose these subjects because they transcend the linguistic barriers often present in other subjects and students can experience early success. This builds their self-confidence and a sense of achievement, which impacts across all areas of school life. Welcome to Rokeby

Our curriculum is based around the needs of students and includes extension for the most able as well as support and intervention so that all students leave Rokeby equipped with the skills to excel in meeting the challenges of the world today. Working together, in partnership with all stakeholders but especially parents and carers, we have created a dynamic and innovative learning institution. At GCSE for the past five years our students have made more progress than students nationally in both English and maths. Exam success is only one measure of achievement; our students have made many significant achievements in other areas. These include sports, public speaking, enterprise initiatives, music, drama and dance.

High Expectations

Recent students who ‘dared to be the best’ include: three young men who in addition to eight A and A*s gained three ‘9’s in mathematics, English language and English Literature. They are now studying for A levels in maths and sciences at NewhamCollegiate Sixth Form and Chobham Academy. In 2017, over 30% of year 11 students gained a 7 or above (old A*/A) in mathematics GCSE and Rokeby has been in the top 5% of schools nationally for progress in mathematics for the past two years.

Student Leadership Opportunities

We encourage our students to aim high and make the most of their time with us. We offer a variety of leadership opportunities including, senior/junior prefects, lunch monitors, sports mentors, year council, P4C champions, peer mediators and anti-bullying ambassadors to name a few. These opportunities are essential in empowering the students and develop confident, independent and ambitious men. Representatives from all of these groups come together as the Student Leadership Group (SLG). This group represents the student body and the leader and his deputy have a regular seat alongside the Headteacher and her leadership team.

Extra-Curricular Activities

As well as its focus on team sports, Rokeby also encourages students to pursue their individual passions. If an individual has an interest in a sport of his own choice, then he is encouraged to develop it. In the past year alone, cycling, weight training, handball, judo and rowing have all been added to the curriculum with outside coaches giving advice. Drama, music, art and dance play an important part of life at Rokeby. There are many opportunities for students to take part in extra-curricular groups and projects including: bands, choir and productions.

“Knowledge will give you power, but character respect.” Bruce Lee

Although we concentrate on the core curriculum of subjects, Rokeby encourages students to develop an interest in a wide range of subjects and activities. Rokeby has an excellent reputation for sport. All the popular team games are encouraged including: basketball, badminton, cricket, football, futsal, rugby and table tennis. Many ex-students have achieved great success at professional level.
