Blood Supply to the Lungs

 2 sets of arteries: Pulmonary Arteries and Bronchial Arteries  Deoxygenated blood passes through pulmonary trunk, which divides into left and right pulmonary artery; each entering the corresponding lung. These eventually lead to pulmonary capillaries that surround the alveoli. This is where blood becomes reoxygenated.  Bronchial Arteries branch from the aorta and deliver oxygenated blood to the lungs.

Respiration

The process of gas exchange in the body. It has 3 basic steps:

1) Pulmonary ventilation or breathing is inhalation (inflow) and exhalation (outflow) of air. This involves the exchange of air between the atmosphere and the alveoli of the lungs. 2) External (pulmonary) Respiration is the exchange of gases between the alveoli and the blood in the pulmonary capillaries across the respiratory membrane. Blood gains O2 and loses CO2 3) Internal (cellular) Respiration is the exchange of gases between blood in the systemic capillaries and the tissue cells. Blood loses O2 and gains CO2
