Y7 Bulletin 26.01.24

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7

I am pleased to report that Year 7 are continuing to maintain a high standard of uniform. It is worth noting that socks must be plain white or black with no logos and if trainers are worn, they must be completely black. If there are any issues that will mean your child will need to come to school in the incorrect uniform, please send your child in with a note which they should bring to me. Leading the housepoint race this week are 7EST, closely followed by 7EDA and 7FLE. Well done to all, keep up the hard work in and out of lessons. At the start of the week our Year 7 Basketball team participated in a match against St. Richard Reynolds. The team showed fantastic sportsmanship despite the unfortunate loss of 33-4. Well done to those who were involved for demonstrating great teamwork and resilience. The new timetable for extra-curricular clubs in the Spring Term has now been shared with form groups and put onto Google Classrooms. Please encourage your child to take part in as many extra-curricular activities as possible. As noted here previously, I frequently have to deal with issues involving misuse of social media and messaging apps such as WhatsApp. May I remind parents that such platforms have a minimum age requirement that exceeds Year 7 age and so I ask parents to check the use of these sites with their children. Experience shows that Year 7 students do not always have the maturity to avoid the pitfalls of social media and this can lead to some upsetting situations. A date to add to the diary is the Year 7 Parents Evening which will take place on Wednesday 21 February. This is an opportunity for parents and carers to discuss academic progress with subject teachers. Information on how to book appointments will be issued in due course.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The Silver Sword by Ian Serraillier

Having lost their parents in WW2, Ruth, Edek and Bronia are left alone to fend for themselves in Warsaw. They then meet Jan, another orphan boy, who has a “silver sword” paper knife given to him by an escape war prisoner. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction and adventure stories.
