AUTUMN 2019 | OUR CULTURE STORY 19
CHAPTER EIGHT
THE VALUE OF VALUES
QUALITY MATTERS ROB FROST Director in our Technical Standards Group, cat lover and disco dancer
“Our team produces an internal magazine called ‘Quality Matters’, through which we can draw attention to a variety of topics pertaining to matters of audit quality. It covers the latest issues in the world of audit and methodology, financial reporting and ethics, real-life experiences and lessons to share as well as containing stories of what we’re doing in the firm to keep enhancing the quality of our work through training and knowledge-sharing. Our readership is reassuringly high, which tells me that partners and staff know they need to stay up to date with the latest developments, without question.”
PAULINE MCGEE Head of Quality & Risk Management Team, avid traveller and fitness enthusiast “Via our ‘Speak Up’ campaign, we encourage our people to speak up and raise any concerns they may have about the conduct of colleagues, clients and suppliers. We’ve introduced two new tools this year: firstly, a new Code of Conduct which is a framework to help us do the right thing. Secondly, on the (hopefully rare) occasions when people have concerns, they can now access a completely independent organisation to confidentially report these concerns, free of charge and available 24/7. The third party will work with us to investigate; helping us to continue working openly, honestly and ethically.”
ONE FOR THE YEAR BOOK BDO produced its first ever firm-wide Culture Report in 2018. This inspired our Technical Standards Group – who play a critical role in driving our high- quality standards – to create their own team Year Book. Highlights included a celebration of the recognition awards the team received over the year, as well as congratulations to the five team members who have been with the firm for between 15 and 30 years.
