OUR BDO POPULATION Our culture at BDO is made-up of every daily interaction between 5,000 individuals. Last year, for the first time, we committed to find out far more about our colleagues: who are they, what makes them tick, where should we celebrate or challenge more on certain areas of the diversity and inclusion, and how can we make better business decisions for our BDO population. So – during National Inclusion Week 2018 – we ran our first Inclusion Survey to help us find out more. 60% of our people shared their data with us – which is nearly double what other professional services firms told us to expect for our first inclusion survey. We used that initial batch of data to inform our ‘Be Yourself’ strategy (see page 25). During National Inclusion Week 2019, we’ll ask for even more people to complete the data so we have a statistically viable set of data, against which we can paint a clearer picture of our BDO population and make better business decisions or set benchmarks as a result.
According to BDO’s 2018 inclusion survey – called BDO DNA – we found: GENDER BALANCE Female: 47.12% Male: 51.96% SEXUAL ORIENTATION PROFILE Heterosexual: 94.8% LGB: 2.9%
BAME profile: 17.6% Proportion who are working parents: 28.4% Proportion who are carers: 3.8%

GLOBAL BDO Our people represent at least 69 different nationalities.
