Great workmanship was demonstrated in this comprehensive revamp of Mount Congreve, one of Ireland’s most famous manor houses, said judges. The project included refurbishment of the existing house’s east courtyard and stables, which were transformed into a visitors’ centre, café and restaurant, commercial kitchen and apartments. Sustainability was the focus of the project from design to handover, with renewable energy products installed throughout, including high-efficiency air-source heat pumps replacing oil boilers, heat pumps for water services and electrical appliances in the commercial kitchen. The panel was impressed by Murphy and Kelly’s detailed planning, yielding a complete fossil-fuel-free installation.

Judges were impressed by Kerrigan Mechanical’s comprehensive report on its coordination, supply and installation of an efficient communal district heating scheme. A development of 368 high-end apartments, the buildings were the second and third apartment blocks in the Dun Laoghaire/ Rathdown area to achieve Nearly Zero Energy Rating (NZEB) compliance. Despite working within the limitations imposed by Covid-19, Kerrigan Mechanical met the desired handover deadline of 18 months. Praise was extended by the panel for great workmanship throughout the install of the plantrooms, micro-CHPs, heat pumps and backup gas-fired condensing boilers, among other heating and plumbing services completed in the very prestigious project.

Detailed planning went into a green revamp of Mount Congreve House.
