An impressive portfolio, high standards, strong partnerships with large contractors and an ambitious expansion strategy wowed the judges, as well as Murphy and Kelly’s commitment to the Thomastown community. The firm makes it a point to employ locals, with 39 of its 57 employees from the area, and supports local community and sports organisations, sponsoring GAA club pitches, a Junior Supersport motorcyclist in Waterford, and school equipment. Created in 1985 with a focus on local projects in Kilkenny, the company is now in its 39th year of business and has expanded into a national company completing projects in 24 counties across Ireland.
A focus on customer service and hands-on management approach saw SW Heating Solutions, “a young company showing great promise”, come in a close second. Judges praised the contractor’s mission to “change the way in which plumbing should be done” as well as the high quality of work in its retrofit and energy-efficient heating projects. Projects have included retrofitting a house with a heat pump and indoor unit for Lark Hill Construction and fitting out commercial bathrooms and kitchens in Howdens warehouses across Ireland. SW Heating also has the biggest instagram following in the country for a plumbing contractor, with over 2k followers.
