Le Village d’antan devra attendre en 2017

ST-ALBERT | Lors d’une causerie organisée la semaine dernière à St-Albert à l’occa- sion du Mois du patrimoine franco-onta- rien, le président du Village d’antan fran- co-ontarien (VAFO), Robert Laplante, a fait le point sur l’évolution du projet. Précédé de l’archiviste en chef de l’Univer- sité d’Ottawa bien connu, Michel Prévost, venu présenter une causerie sur les trésors des archives de l’Université, M. Laplante a par la suite dressé un portrait de l’avenir du projet du Village d’antan devant un audi- toire d’une quarantaine de personnes. «Le Village d’antan a dû être reporté en 2017, a rapporté le président, parce que trois sub- ventions importantes nous ont été refusées. Nous espérons que l’Ontario débloquera des fonds pour 2015.» Les subventions en question ont été demandées à l’Agence fédérale de développement économique pour le Sud de l’Ontario (FedDev), à Tou- risme Ontario et à la Société de développe- ment communautaire de Prescott-Russell (SDCPR) et totalisaient 225 000$, somme qui n’arrivera vraisemblablement pas.

Photo Annie Lafortune Il a poursuivi ses explications en mention- nant que l’année 2013 a été difficile. «Nous avons perdu nos employés, faute de pou- voir les payer, donc il n’est pas facile d’avan- cer sans employés, a expliqué M. Laplante. Mais nous avons un plan de marketing. Encore une fois, ce qu’il manque, c’est la main d’œuvre dont le but est de faire des collectes de fonds.» Le futur Village d’antan sera aménagé à l’arrière de la Fromagerie St-Albert, princi- pal partenaire, qui prête 65 acres de terre au bord de la rivière Nation. «Nous devons maintenant amasser 2 millions$ pour réali- ser ce beau grand projet», a conclu M. La- plante.

Woman escapes choking assault Police have charged a Russell man in a domestic assault case where choking or strangling was involved as part of the attack. OPP officers answered a call about a domestic disturbance on Feb. 26. The call came from a home on Trillium Crescent in Russell village and the alleged victim in the assault was waiting outside the residence for police to arrive. After investigation, police have charged a 38-year-old Russell man, name with- held, with spousal assault and with use of choking, strangling or suffocation to overcome another person’s resistance. The accused is scheduled for first appear- ance on the charges during the March 12 provincial court session in L’Orignal. Domestic disturbance Police were called to home on Pebbelmill Lane in Russell village to investigate a possible domestic assault complaint. Upon arriving at the scene, police heard from a witness that there was an argu- ment during which threats were made. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of a 28-year-old Russell man, name withheld. The man is charged with uttering threats of either death or bodily harm towards a spouse. He is due for first appearance in provincial court on the charge in L’Orignal March 12.
