But, he added, while the trails in the community forest may not be ready yet for snowmobilers and nordic skiers to enjoy weekend outings, the mountain bike trails are still good for riders who have fatbikes to take them over the leaps and jumps along the trails. «The bike traffic on these trails will be nuts,» Prevost said, with a chuckle, as he noted that the Larose Forest is becoming a destination point for «fat bike» trail riders from the Ottawa area and other parts of Eastern Ontario and Quebec. «There’s nothing like this around the Ottawa area, unless they have groomed trails,» he said. «Here for fatbikes, it’s open riding all year round.» Prevost noted that he himself enjoys getting out on the trails on a fatbike when he has the chance. «I can’t wait to go out,» he said, chuckling.
Winter has arrived in Eastern Ontario with two rounds of snowfall. But it is not enough yet to make the snowmobile and ski trails ready for use, though it can make mountain biking a bit more interesting. Louis Prevost, forestry and planning director for the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, reported that the snowmobile and cross-country ski trails in the Larose Forest won’t be ready for winter recreation yet, even with the recent snowfall. «We need a lot more snow to make that happen,» Prevost said during a phone inter- view. «At least a 30-centimetre base.» Prevost noted that overall snow conditions around the Prescott-Russell region may vary, with some areas having more snow on the ground while in other areas there are still

De Rockland, ON, est décédé paisiblement le mardi 20 novembre 2018 à l’âge de 81 ans. Il était l’époux de Barbara Sanchez, le fils de feu Joseph Perrier et de feu Marguerite Payer. Il laisse dans le deuil ses deux filles: Diane (Mike Horan) et Dominique (feu Alain Potvin) ainsi que son petit-fils Jake Horan. Il laisse également ses 3 sœurs: Carmen (feu Claude Viau), Pauline (feu Roger Gustafson), Pierrette (feu Ernest L’Espérance), sa belle- soeur Rachael (feu Roma Martin), son beau- frère Phillip (feu Ginette Maisonneuve) ainsi que plusieurs neveux, nièces et ami(e)s. Il fut prédécédé par ses deux frères: Maurice (feu Pauline St-Onge) et Raymond. La famille désire remercier le personnel du Centre Elizabeth Bruyère pour les bons soins et la compassion. Des dons à la fondation Bruyère, 43 Bruyère St, Ottawa, ON K1N 5C8 peuvent être faits. À la demande de Jean-Paul la cérémonie aura lieu en privé pour la famille:

Un record a été établi, le 22 novembre dernier à Saint-Pascal-Baylon, pour la sortie en raquettes la plus hâtive de Retraite en Action en ce début de saison. Même si la température ressentie était de -23 degrés Celsius à 10 h 30, 18 braves raquetteurs se sont rassemblés pour parcourir les sentiers enneigés et pour profiter à plein des bienfaits d’un bain de forêt. Retraite en Action, un organisme sans but lucratif veut faire bouger les retraités par l’entremise de plusieurs activités. —photo fournie
