PSM. Sciatica Pain

If you’ve ever experienced back pain, or more importantly, leg pain, numbness, tingling or weakness you might have a deeper medical issue thanmechanical low back pain. These symptoms are caused by an irritation of the spinal nerves and are loosely called sciatica. While “sciatica” may sound ominous and serious, it’s entirely treatable and often curable. WHAT IS SCIATICA? Sciatica is pain, numbness, tingling or weakness that radiates down the sciatic nerve. This nerve is formed when multiple nerve roots in the lowback joinup tobecome theSciaticnervewhich thenrunsdown to your hips, buttocks, legs and feet. It can be injured or compressed by many injuries or conditions however the underlying cause of most sciatica related pain is inflammation and compression of the nerve. While sciatica pain can be intense, it can be treated. WHAT CAUSES SCIATICA? Inmostcases, sciaticaoccurswhenoneofthe lowbackdisks isbulging orherniated. Itcanalsohappen ifthespinalcanalorthespacebetween the vertebrae narrows and irritates the nerves. Sciatica is also caused when the joints in the low back become jammed or subluxated and the resulting inflammation irritatesthenervescausingyourpain. Another commoncause isspasmofthepiriformismusclewhichthencompresses the Sciatic nerve. As we age, our backs undergo chronic stress and this causes degeneration, arthritis and inflammation in these areas. As the inflammation increases, it reaches a critical point where it may compress these nerves — resulting in pain. STOP SCIATICA IN ITS TRACKS The majority of sciatica cases, in fact, can be resolved without surgery —and in a fewweeks. Even if you’ve suffered with severe sciatica pain, leg weakness, bladder changes or nerve issues, there’s still hope.
