▪ Work as part of the Carbon Neutral Project team with responsibility for oversight and delivery of the energy and decarbonisation strand, including providing technical advice and recommendations on meeting our target by 2030. ▪ Analyse, monitor and report on energy and carbon expenditure, identifying and investigating trends in energy use, highlighting issues regarding poor performing school buildings and recommending action, as necessary. ▪ Lead for United Learning on our approach to Energy Management: > Work closely with the Group’s Energy Partner to ensure all schools are accurately consumption profiled to benefit from the groupwide energy contracts, including managing the transition from legacy energy contracts for new joiners to the Group. > Work closely with our appointed energy advisors to ensure that United Learning is able to achieve

Energy & Sustainability Manager

THE ROLE To develop, plan and coordinate all energy related work across United Learning, to contribute towards reducing expenditure on gas, electricity and water and to achieving our goal of reducing our emissions by 50K tCO2e by 2030 on our journey towards net zero. To provide informed, evidence-based advice (including by liaising with external experts) to central office colleagues and to schools on energy matters, including energy contracts, decarbonisation and the wider sustainability agenda. To define, implement, and deliver an effective energy and water usage monitoring and reduction plan, working closely with internal and external partners io ensure successful outcomes. As a member of the United Learning Carbon Neutral project team be responsible for shaping and delivering the energy and decarbonisation strand of our carbon reduction strategy. On decarbonisation, this involves ensuring all our schools have a decarbonisation plan, these are brought together with the school building development plans, with a clear prioritisation, costings and schedule of work for the group. Ensure that avenues for funding are explored and maximised e.g. PSDS, LCSF On energy, ensure that benefits of our group buying power are maximised and creative options are explored to deliver an excellent price, energy security and sound green credentials. Work in close consultation with our Energy Procurement Partners and Estate Managers ensuring that energy efficiency factors are incorporated into all project planning and operational activities and investigate the use of low carbon and renewable energy solutions to deliver cost effective carbon savings. Creating and nurturing a sustainability best practice culture and community across the Group, to ensure that sustainability is embedded in all day-to-day operations.

OVERVIEW You will play an important role in achieving our ambition to reduce our emissions by 50K tCO2e by 2020 (on our journey to Net Zero) as well as reducing our expenditure on utilities across the group. LOCATION The role will be home based and will include regular travel to the schools across the United Learning Group, as well as regular travel to the group’s Central Offices (Peterborough and London). COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS INTERNAL ▪ Director of Estates, Estates Managers, Estates Executive Assistant. ▪ Director and Deputy Director of Strategy & Performance, Carbon Neutral Champions ▪ Chief Financial Officer, Head of Procurement ▪ School contacts within the Group, in particular Business Managers and Facilities Managers. ▪ Education Directors / Regional Directors. ▪ Group Committees when appropriate. EXTERNAL ▪ Professional organisations working with the Group i.e. Architects, surveyors etc. ▪ Contractors. ▪ Group Energy Framework Provider. ▪ External organisations with particular expertise in carbon reduction (strategies, monitoring etc) e.g. Carbon Trust.

that are informed by an excellent understanding of the energy market, procurement and frameworks. > Develop tools to audit, monitor and interrogate energy usage (including against appropriate benchmarks), to support decision-making and sharing of best practice in energy saving measures. > Provide regular reports for Committee on energy consumption/cost/efficiency and illustrate improvements in these areas. ▪ Keep abreast of changing legislation and good practice to ensure that the Group is complying with its statutory responsibilities in respect of environmental issues. ▪ Establish and maintain relationships with relevant external organisations, so that our schools and the organisation as a whole have access to the most current thinking on energy efficiency in the education sector and are able to take advantage of relevant opportunities for investment and innovation. ▪ Lead on a programme of initiatives associated with Energy and Water reduction.
