annual leave is encouraged. Because of the benefits resulting to both employees and the organisation, supervisors will ensure that each employee is allowed to take regular and sufficient continuous leave each year, to provide adequate rest and recreation. Annual Leave is accruable at the rate of two (2) days per month, totalling 24 days per year. Employees may take leave upfront, up to a maximum of 20 working days, provided they remain employed for the duration required to accrue the equivalent leave. Unused leave must be taken within the employment period, as it will not be carried forward unless otherwise approved. Upon resignation or termination, any accrued but unused leave will be forfeited. All annual leave requests are to be prepared on the annual leave form and submitted to the People Management office for verification of eligibility and entitlements as of the date of application thereafter, it can be presented to the supervisor for approval. Upon approval, the approved form must be documented with the People Management Office either in soft copy or paper copy for the necessary documentation. For leave to be approved, notice and approved form must have been obtained at least 10 days before the effective date of request. All exceptions to this must be presented in writing to the supervisor with a detailed justification. Unused annual leave may be carried over to the next year up to a maximum of ten (10) days total accumulated days of annual leave due. Carried over leave days must be fully utilized in the first three months of the new calendar year else, such days would be forfeited.

8.3 Sick Leave

The purpose of sick leave is to provide time off with pay when an employee or any member of his/her immediate family (for married staff only) is sick. Employees are entitled to seven (7) days of sick leave per year at full pay, Employees receive full benefits while on sick leave. This provision does not exclude employees on probation. With the supervisor’s written permission, sick leave may also be used for medical and dental examinations and treatment (with appropriate advance notice given to the employee’s supervisor) and to care for and/or accompany to the hospital an authorised or immediate family dependent who is ill or in need of medical and dental treatment. The employee must notify her/his supervisor of an absence due to a dependent’s illness as soon as possible.
