AfriLabs Employee Manual

9.1 Flexi-time Policy

Description

Flextime is a work schedule that allows employees to work hours that are not within the standard 9:00 am to 5:00 pm range while maintaining a high level of service. It will also enable employees to have some control over their working arrangements. AfriLabs believes that flextime can help with child-care arrangements, with an unreliable transport system and with other personal appointments. To assist in this, the Organisation will actively support flextime where it is reasonable and practical to do so and where operational needs will not be adversely affected.

Eligibility

All staff are eligible to apply for flextime.

Schedules

Under the flexi-time scheme the day can be broken down as follows:

Flexi-time 07.00 to 15.00 08.00 to 16.00 10.00 to 18.00

Core hours (7 hours) must be worked

Working any arrangement of hours within a 7-hour day constitutes a valid work day. It is important to remember that the level of service must be maintained during core hours, which are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Once an employee signs up for a particular flex time, the individual is expected to work that schedule in a consistent manner.
