Management

Because services within each unit vary, not every employee in each department will be able to work similar flextime schedules. Therefore, supervisors will have to carefully examine the flextime schedules that their supervisees request so that they can coordinate work schedules which ensure ample employee coverage during core hours. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to verify and ensure the performance of employees with flextime schedules. Employees should accurately record the time they begin and end their work each day in their time sheets.

Approval

Employees shall formally request flextime at least two working days prior to the proposed flextime start date by submitting a request to their supervisor for approval copying People Management. This advance notice is required to ensure adequate measures are in place for coverage. Flextime can be taken in a block of one-week minimum. Managers have the right to modify or deny a request and to review any previously approved flexible work schedule. Approval is at the discretion of the supervisor and the People Management or his/her designee who will give valid reasons for non-approval if need be.

Violation

Flextime is a privilege, not a right, and, if abused, can be taken away at the discretion of the Head of the Unit and is cause for disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.
