Let’s just say he wasn’t very happy when we all checked out and he realized the rest of us had charged everything to his room!” “Thanks, Kenyon, very funny, I remember that,” scoffed Goldberg, who sounded like he still may have been a bit miffed about getting stuck with a huge bar bill. He retorted, “What about what happened at the airport on that same trip? You let the bellhop take your bags to the plane and when the security guy asks you if you’ve had your bags with you the whole time, you said ‘no!’ You got ‘escorted’ into the ‘orange room’ to be checked out and that was the last we saw of you. I landed in Atlanta and got a call from your wife screaming at me for leaving you behind!” Good times, indeed. Not only did this company culture of caring for its people breed success for Linpac, but it also “trickled down” to its customers, as well. “Our people got to know our customers’ order book and the sizes they would order so if they were looking for trim for the corru- gator, they knew who to call to see whether they needed that particular size, which really helped us,” said Goldberg. “Our customers became our friends, too, and we could call on each of them and just ask for something, anything. If they had what we needed, we usually got it, which was one more reason why I loved my job at Linpac,” said Meador. “Yes, it was culture, but I also felt like the compa- ny really invested in me. And I’ve been able to create and maintain some lifelong friendships.” Goldberg continued, “For the older generation, culture in the 80s and 90s had a whole different meaning than it does today. culture you provide! Evan Cornish, Bob Lang, Nigel Roe and Carlo Silvestri believed it and it shows in their compa- nies’ success. Michael Cornish decided some years after Evan passed that corrugated was not his future and he sold to a VC and eventually US Corrugated was created, but that’s a story for another time. “So on behalf of all of my lifelong friends and col- leagues at Linpac, I want to say a most sincere ‘thank you,’ again, to my friends at Linpac and the rest of our great corrugated industry for allowing me to have a phenome- nal career while contributing to one of the most innovative and culturally significant companies I believe the industry has ever seen,” concluded Goldberg. “Thank you!”
