Celebrating Pride Month in NYC With Kids
June is Pride Month, and New York City offers families many opportunities to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and community together. As the birthplace of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement, NYC hosts a month-long calendar of events that welcome people of all ages and backgrounds. One of the biggest highlights is the annual NYC Pride March on Sunday, June 28, 2026. One of the largest LGBTQ+ civil rights demonstrations in the world, the march brings together participants, community groups, performers, and supporters from across the city and beyond. Families often line the streets to enjoy the colourful
community resources, and activities designed specifically for LGBTQ+ youth, their families, friends, and allies. Throughout June, families can also find Pride celebrations across the boroughs. Queens Pride takes place on June 7, while Brooklyn Pride is scheduled for June 13, offering additional opportunities to enjoy performances, community events, and celebrations closer to home. Beyond the major events, libraries, museums, bookstores, and cultural institutions throughout the city host Pride-themed storytimes, exhibitions, workshops, and family activities. These events provide wonderful opportunities to
atmosphere and celebrate the spirit of acceptance that Pride represents. Also taking place on June 28 is PrideFest, a free street festival featuring entertainment, community organisations, food vendors, activities, and family-friendly programming. The event is a great way for families to experience Pride in a welcoming environment while learning more about the organisations that support New York City’s LGBTQ+ community. For older children and teens, Youth Pride takes place on Saturday, June 27, at Pier 16 in the South Street Seaport. Hosted by NYC Pride, the free event includes live entertainment, carnival games, music,
talk with children about kindness, respect, and the importance of embracing people for who they are. Whether you attend a parade, explore a community festival, or simply take part in a local Pride event, June is a wonderful time to celebrate the diversity that makes New York City such a vibrant place to live and visit. Pride Month reminds us that every family deserves to feel welcomed, valued, and included. For the latest event information and any schedule updates, be sure to check organisers’ websites before attending.
