Wake Forest Parks & Greenways Wayfinding Workbook - 2020

S ummary The Comprehensive Wayfinding Plan for Parks and Greenways will establish an overall signage and wayfinding system to improve visitors experience to Wake Forest by assisting them in reaching their desired destination, increasing the visibility of the Town’s park system through the preservation of the Wake Forest Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources brand, and strengthening the community’s sense of place. The Town of Wake Forest currently has 12 parks and 12.7 miles of greenway within the Town limits and unincorporated areas. These parks are maintained by the Town’s Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Resources Department. Recently, the Town identified the need to develop a wayfinding program as a part their overall vision in their adopted Master Parks & Recreation Plan and Open Space & Greenways Plan. Kimley-Horn & Associates, along with Dawa, Inc. (Design Team), was retained by the Town of Wake Forest to assess the Town’s park system signage and develop a new comprehensive wayfinding plan working with Town staff, the Project Core Committee, and the public artists, Jim Hirshfield and Sonya Ishii. The core committee included members from the Town’s Public Art Commission (PAC), Greenways Advisory Board (GAB), and Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Resources Advisory Board (PRCR). The Design Workbook is a comprehensive wayfinding system for the Town of Wake Forest’s parks and greenways. It is intended to be used as a guide for all future signage implementation and will, undoubtedly, grow with the Town over time.
