life, eternal life, comes only to those who receive God’s Son. “He that hath the Son hath life, and he that hath not the Son of Gbd hath not life" (1 John 5:12). One who does not have life is then still “ dead In trespasses and sins” (Eph. 2:1, 2). . After birth, the provision for growth and sustenance is from Him. The needs in both the physical and spir itual realms are supplied by His gracious hand, and we thank Him for the material provisions for our funda mental needs of food, clothing, and shelter. And in the spiritual réalm we praise Him for the satisfaction of: Spiritual hunger: “I am that bread of life”- (John 6:48; cf. 49-58). Spiritual thirst: “But whosoever drinketh of the water tha t! shall give him shall never thirst” (John 4:14). Spiritual clothing: “He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness” (Isa. 61:10). IIv THE NEED: LIGHT. Christ is our Light. (John 1:4; Psa. 27:1). Robert Lee of England tells that even the blind require light. For the sake of economy in the erection of a building, a committee planning an asylum for the blind decided to save money by not putting in windows. But the inmates suffered so seriously in health that windows had to be put'in. Into a world of moral and spiritual darkness, the Light of the World came. Concerning Christ, the record is given: “In him wás life; and the life was the light of meq” (John 1:4). One of the earliest of all blackouts came from the hand of God as a plague against unbelief—that of the black darkness that covered Egypt as a thick cloud (Ex. 10:21-23). And in the midst of that blackout, a miracle took place. The children of Israel had light! Miracles on a vaster, Wider scále are taking place yet today when in the midst of awful blackness of sin and unbelief, individuals walk in light. And who are they? Thèy are the ones who have received Him. They alone can say, “The Lord is my light and my salvation” (Psa. 27:1; cf. 1 John 1:7).

THE NEED: LIBERTY. Christ is the Deliverer (Lk. 1:71, 74). Now that our national liberty is threatened by totalitarianism, the word “freedom” has new grandeur and meaning. But, how many of those who think they are enjoying all their rights of liberty have ever entered into the most important phase of all? Many a mail is bound in bonds by the arch enemy of men’s souls, Satan. For, “Whosoever committeth sin is the servant o f ' sin” (John 8:34), and the Wages of the servant of sin is death (cf. Rom. 6:23). He- cannot free him self, but the Lord Jesus has come to “ proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound” (Isa. 61:1). “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (John 8:36). IV. THE NEED: LOVE. Christ’s love p a s s e t h knowledge (Eph. 3:19). Imagine If you can, a world abso lutely devoid of love. Such a world would be a most undesirable place. But however rich a person may be in the wealth of human love, that heart is never completely satisfied until he knows the One who is love. Christ’s plan is that His redeemed jasople Should worship Him (Rev. 4:11) and serve Him in love without fear (Lk. 1:74, 75; 1 John 4:18). His love drew us (Jer. 31:3) when we were yet- sinners (Rom. 5:8) and is sacrificial (Gal. 2:20). One of the strongest elements in love is fellowship. His love for “his own” is unending (John 13:1), He Himself is unchanging (Heb. 13:8), and His love defies separation (Rom. 8:35). FEBRUARY 21, 1943 HOW CHRIST BUILDS A WORLD OF BROTHERHOOD L uke 24¡36-49 By Paul A. Uhlinger Introduction The fact is quite obvious that this is no world of brotherhood. It is be yond the hopes of any one acquainted at all with human nature, to make of the whole world such a Utopia. Nor is it God’s purpose to make of the whole of mankind a universal brotherhood. However, it was God’s purpose in sending His Son “to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons” (Gal. Jé
