The Christian Herald for April de clares that the churches made a net gain of 573,723 members in 1927. The Roman Church shows a gain of 174,889. The Methodists came next with 150,910. Two groups showed loss - the Presbyterians, with 13,580 and the Friends with 1,847 fewer. * * * One of our subscribers writes' to thank us. for the cover design of our April issue, which suggested an idea for an electric decoration for the church with which the subscriber is affiliated. The cross, illum inated after the manner suggested, is said to have brought many compliments to the church. * * * Germany is stirred over a film depict ing the life of Martin Luther, and in deference to strong Roman Catholic pro test it is - being withdrawn. The film deeply wounded the religious feelings of the Roman Catholic population. * * * Harry Carr, the news writer, makes some significant observations with regard to the development of aviation. “Avia tion,” he says, “is shrinking the world and m a k i n g men everywhere neighbors.

Knowing each other better arouses sym pathy. Lindbergh is not only the Amer ican Eagle; he is the Dove of Peace.” Mr. Carr does not fail to see, however, that being neighbors in the same block does not necessarily promote friendly re lations. The worst squabbles often occur among people whose, lots adjoin. Some times the less you know about folks across the way, the more, you think of them. Mr. Carr sees that aeroplanes are not simple birds of peace but may become the “wasps of war”, and that understand ing without forbearance may fill the world with these wasps. * * * Dr. I. R. Dean, one of the great Bible teachers of our day, has gone Home. He was stricken suddenly at his home in Los Angeles and passed away on April 4th. Dr. Dean was a familiar figure about our Institute building and' was conversing with friends here but a few days prior to his home-going. His funeral was held in our Institute auditorium and the large attendance indicates the high esteem in which he was hild by Bible students in Southern California. His messages at Bible Conferences were always strong and helpful. Thus passes another of the faith ful witnesses to the truth of our Lord’s soon coming.

Praise H im ! TN our last issue we stated that . over 600 missionaries had been recently cut off our subscription list. This was due to influences brought to bear upon contribu tors who had in past years made these subscriptions possible. We are happy to say that in answer to our appeal enough money has come in to restore every one of these to our list. .Those who would be interest ed in keeping army and navy chaplains on our list, also prison libraries, can help us at this time.

Thou shalt grade thy instruction to meet the needs of developing childhood and youth. Thou shalt honor thy father and mother by restoring Christian education to a prominent place in thine own family circle. “Let them learn first to show piety at home." 1 Timothy 5 :4. 7. Thou shalt permeate thy whole program of Christian education with the evangelistic spirit and reverently seek to win boys and girls to Christ early in life. “Suffer the little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me.” Matthew 19:14. afe The Conquest of th e Air W HO are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?” (Isa. 60:8). One of the great things about’the Bible is that it is a Book for all time, and, though written many centuries ago it is up to the minute in its contact with life. Who could ask better words of surprise and interest on the part of the uplooking people watching an aeroplane coming to land than the words written by Isaiah? The student of prophecy will recog nize the chapter as being a foretelling of a time to come when Israel is entering into national restoration and spir itual illumination in a measure not realized as yet, but sure to come. And it is a wonderful revelation of the signs of our times to note that in the conquest of the air of the last twenty-five years, men are flying like the clouds and come safely to earth as doves to their windows. Giant airships filled with helium gas mount up and cross the continent and enter the giant hangars built for them, like a dove coming to its home window. Flying machines of other and various kinds pierce the clouds and pass over the great spaces of land and water. Every day some new venture or incident appears in the news columns of the world .— Wesleyan Methodist.
