He may arrange responses of different sections of the audience. By prearrangement, he may call upon an indi vidual or group to sing a verse. By repeating a chorus once or more, he may bring up the volume of song. • What is called “variety work” is often a great help. Run from one song or chorus to another, having carefully selected pieces in the same key. Some accompanists, however, must be thoroughly prepared for this feature. A good leader will always have in mind the end toward which he is working. If the service is devotional, he will work the song service with the thought of calming; the people and producing an atmosphere of reverence. If the service is in the nature of a rally, he will lead up> to a climax of enthusiasm. In every case, he will work in harmony with the chairman or speaker, preparing the people for the message to follow. A good leader will always be modest, not seeking to at tract attention to himself by spectacular stunts, but to keep the minds of the people upon the message they are singing. J un ior R esponse Supt.—I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the House of the Lord. Child— Our feet shall stand within thy gates. Supt .-—The Lord is in His holy temple. Child —Let all the earth keep silence before Him. All —Order our steps in thy Word and let not any in iquity have dominion over us. J un ior P rayer Give me clean hands, clean words, and clean.thoughts; Save me from habits that harm; Teach me to work as hard and play as fair in Thy sight alone As if all the world saw. Forgive me when I am unkind, And help me to forgive those who are unkind to me; Keep me ready to help others, even at cost to myself; Send me chances to do a little good every day, And so grow more like Christ. Open thou mine eyes that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law.—V. 18. J un ior P ledge I promise to be regular in attendance, courteous in be havior, and faithful in my work; and to do all I can to help others to do the same.

spoil a beautiful hymn .by tearing through each stanza in the same tempo, ignoring parts that should be sung softly. If stanzas are to be omitted, they should not be such as to destroy the message of the hymn. He must always be cheerful. No matter what goes wrong, he must not scold the people. Admonishing is sometimes necessary, but it must always be done in a spirit that will not antagonize. A leader who is not himself spiritual has no place in a service of spiritual song. His presence will be like a wet. blanket upon the crowd, regardless of his natural abilities. He has nothing to contribute to the service of God, and instead of preparing the general atmosphere for the message to follow, he will deaden it. To keep up the pitch of interest in the song service it is often well to introduce variety. This can only be done when the leader is familiar with the song message. He may call upon the men to sing in unison, or the women.
