4. If law-keeping could save us, there would have been no need for Christ’s sacg T ifice (2:21; 3:21). 5. Who shall say how much law-keep ing is needed to complete salvation? (3: 10-11; 5:3),' 6. Salvation is either by law or prom ise: it cannot be both (3:18). 7. The purpose of the' law (3:19-24). Conclusion : “Ye ARE the children of God by faith" (3:26). Cf. Acts 13:38-39; Rom. 6:14. Memory Verse. —“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another;” John 13 :35. Approach. —Show the children a piece of rope, Explain that it is made of many strands which, bound together, make it
very strong. Show that one strand is easily broken. When • God’s children work together, in harmony and help each other, t h e i r influence is strong a n d H is work grows rapid ly ; but when they try to work separ ately they are not able to accomplish much. Working together in love and with united prayer, effort and gifts, they can do much. When all Christians do this, the whole world will soon be brought to know Jesus.-—(Primary Teacher.) Lesson 5'fory.s-Last week we heard about two missionaries, and they met a crippled man who had never walked. Who can tell me what happened to him? (Let some child tell all he can remember about it; and if anything is untold, ask the others to tell it. Emphasize truth that R>nly God is to be worshiped.); You see the missionaries had the courage to stop the people when they would have wor shiped them, and to preach the true and living God to them. Now, boys and girls, Satan does not want people to be saved, and so in our story today he is-, working among the heathen people who believed on Jesus when they ' heard Paul -and Barnabas preach. The sad thing is, Satan works through, people who belong to Jesus. The Jews were God’s chosen people, and heard o f God first, and so they did not like to think the heathen people (Gentiles) had equal rights with themselves in the mat ter of /Salvation; so they told the Gen tile believers that unless they obeyed cer tain laws which the Jews had been 're quired to obey, they could not be saved. The Lord had said the Gospel was ^ior all, and told His disciples to go and preach -to all nations, but these jews would have men think the Gospel and salvation were only for Jews or those who obeyed Jewish laws- Paul and Barnabas did. not like to hear such teaching, for it was not true. They knew we are_ saved only through Jesus, , and that Jesus’ power is sufficient to save all people. The disciples talked the mat ter over, and it was decided that Paul and Barnabas and others should go to Jerusa lem and ask the apostles and elders of the church there, to talk over the matter. As Paul and Barnabas went on their way they stopped and preached in the churches. They told of the many Gentiles who had been saved, which caused great joy to all Christians. Jesus told the peo ple He was talking to one day, that there was joy in heaven among the angels when even one sinner was saved. Paul and Barnabas had a loving wel come from the church at Jerusalem. You have never been to a business meeting of the church, but you can think how it would be. All the leaders were there, and among them, Peter. Some said one way, arid some another, and finally Peter stood up and told how God had sent him to preach to the Gentiles and how God had sent His loving Spirit into their hearts and they were saved. He said not to worry them about their Jewish laws, which neither their fathers nor them selves could always keep. Paul and Barnabas then told how God had blessed these Gentile Christians. Then James, the earthly brother of Jesus, sug gested they send a letter to these Gentile
