Alumni Perspectives
JHJ Alumni Chapter President Bernika Scott
JHJ Alumni Report Over the past two years the world witnessed something unprecedented which brought about so many personal and professional changes. This affected how the chapter would conduct meetings and hold events. The Jesse H. Jones Alumni Chapter had to pivot and adapt to a new normal in a virtual world. That didn’t deter the chapter from giving out scholarships, continuing to give to our endowment fund, and building our
alumni community.
Established in 1990, the mission of the Jesse H. Jones School of Business Alumni Chapter (JHJAC) of Texas Southern University National Alumni Association, Inc. (TSUNAA) is to foster, promote, explore, and advance new and innovative activities and programs that will enhance their career opportunities, lives, and goals of the students at and from the School of Business at Texas Southern University.
As President for 2022-2023 my vision and goal is:
Vision: The Jesse H. Jones Alumni Chapter(JHJAC) will strive to connect, support, and engage current and future alumni.
Goal: Continue to give scholarships to current students and fundraising opportunities.
In this role, my main goal is to continue to give out scholarships to deserving students. Help undergraduate and graduate students become aware of the many scholarships we give out every year. The alumni chapter has a vested interest in giving back to our future alumni that will soon join the ranks of our chapter. I encourage JHJ alums to give back to the chapter and University through sharing their TSU experience with the students, networking opportunities, and supporting the many initiatives to get students ready for corporate life after graduating. At the end of 2021, the chapter awarded $2,400 in scholarships to two students. With the start of our “TSU School of Business Alumni Endowment Fund for Undergraduate Student Scholarships” will help even more students in the future. As of December 2021, the Endowment Fund is $42K, in this amount a $20k match from our University will be included. To learn more about the endowment and opportunities to give please visit: https://giving.tsu.edu/jhj2020/ The Jesse H. Jones Alumni Chapter(JHJAC) is excited to announce the return of their Scholarship Soiree in January 2023. This event brings together alumni, friends, and supporters of the JHJ Alumni Chapter to help raise funds to support academic scholarships through our John Odom Scholarship Fund. In addition to the scholarships we award, we recognize 40 alumni with a 40 Under 40 Award who are doing exceptionally well in their career, making an impact within their companies, and the community. As we slowly return to in person, we’ve planned to have alumni congratulate TSU’s newest JHJ School of Business graduates during Spring and Winter Commencement. With more events planned in the near future. In closing, the JHJ Alumni Chapter continues to work with the University and Business Advisory Council to ensure we can offer our expertise, connect with current students and alumni, and build a stronger TSU community. I look forward to seeing excellence in achievement. For more information about the Jesse H. Jones School of Business Alumni Chapter (JHJAC), please visit www.JHJAC.org.
