APTUS CONNECTIONS ISSUE 16 - FUTURE-PROOFING APTUS

Getting to know you

Chloe Armstrong joined Aptus in 2016 on a business administration apprenticeship through Bolton based independent training provider, Alliance Learning. Chloe was placed within the operations administration team, responsible for ordering plant, equipment and other materials for site, along with other duties. Today, Chloe is a gas administration supervisor, and this year she celebrates eight years with Aptus. Here, we talk to her about her role and some of her career highlights to date.

Q: Talk us through a typical day A: A typical day consists of overseeing all the tasks we undertake in the gas admin team which are booking in gas connections for all regions, writing the procedures for the gas connections on site, and auditing the completion packs we get back in from the teams and engineers once the gas connections have been completed. There are four of us in the team who undertake all these roles and we are all cross trained as we like to change things up and help and support each other as and when we can. My typical day also consists of providing support and guidance and any training that is required to get the best out of my team. Q: You’ve been at Aptus for seven years now – what has been your career highlight? A: My career highlight so far is getting the role I am currently in. As an apprentice I started off as an admin assistant ordering all the materials and plant needed on site. After I came back from maternity leave, I saw a job opening within the gas technical admin team and thought a change would be good for me to learn new skills and further my knowledge in the utility industry. I started in the gas technical team as an admin assistant and in 2022, became the gas administration supervisor within the gas technical team. I have never looked back since. I love my job and am excited to see where it takes me in the future!

Q: What would you say to anyone considering undertaking an apprenticeship? A: To anyone who is thinking about starting an apprenticeship, I would 100% recommend going down this route. Learning while you earn is so beneficial as it motivates you to work hard and gives you some independence too! Q: Finally, what do you enjoy doing outside of work? A: Outside work I love to spend time with my family (partner, six-year-old daughter and our Cocker Spaniel Rosie). We love to go on days out, out for nice meals and long walks when the weather lets us!
