Dear SLTO Family, As we celebrate the first quarter of 2024, it is important to cherish the lessons learned, the challenges overcome, and the successes achieved together as one family! I am ecstatic to re-launch our very own Quarterly Newsletter that has been revamped to give you a glimpse into everything that has been happening at SLTO and encourage you to participate in contributing towards each other's growth and success in the months to come! I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone for joining us for all our colleague events like 'Moments of Joy', 'A Night in Miami' and every moment taken to celebrate our SLTO Family. I am very proud of our team for retaining the coveted Forbes Five Star Award for the fifth consecutive year! This recognition serves as a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence, reflects all our hard work and the exceptional standards we uphold in every aspect of our hotel. Welcome to the SLTO Family!
Perry P. Director of Sales and Marketing
Perry joined us on February 5, 2024, from the W Toronto where he held the title of Director of Sales and Marketing. He was an instrumental part of their successful opening team. Prior to that role, Perry was the Director of Sales at the opening of the St. Regis Toronto. Perry has over 15+ years of experience in sales working with hospitality brands such as Fairmont, St. Regis, Starwood Hotels, and W Hotels. He has an extensive knowledge of the Toronto market as he started his career with The Westin Harbour Castle and The Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel. Perry’s favourite type of travel is to warm/beachy oceanside destinations. He loves to surf and has gone cage diving with great white sharks in South Africa. His favourite foods are Italian and Indian.

Zhi W. Human Resources Coordinator
It is with great pleasure that we announce the internal promotion of Zhi Wang from his contract role as Human Resources Associate to the full- time position of Human Resources Coordinator! Zhi joined our SLTO Family on a temporary contract as Service Associate – Human Resources in April 2023. Prior to that he also completed his internship with us from April 2022 to July 2022. During his short tenure with us he has demonstrated a helpful, positive attitude aligned with our company values and beliefs. In his new role, Zhi will continue to support the HR Team and take on additional tasks related to recruitment, colleague engagement, monthly reporting (and more)!

Toronto Police Services Recognition

On February 10, 2024, Toronto Police Services (TPS) alerted Security at SLTO for our help in their search for an emotionally disturbed individual. TPS was able to locate a call from the individual in the surrounding area of the hotel. Trey was able to identify the same individual in one of our elevators and alerted TPS. Security and other hotel staff worked together to track down the Uber vehicle the individual left the hotel in. This further helped TPS find and assist the individual. TPS called the hotel praising our wonderful security team at SLTO and gave a special acknowledgment to Trey for identifying the individual.

Congratulations to Dean for his first successful guest lecture at Centennial College! He had the incredible experience of spending time with and listening to the upcoming generation of hoteliers, who were delighted to hear from him and learn from his elaborate experiences in the Industry. Dean inspired students by sharing stories of creating memorable guest experiences and a “Day in Life”, in his role at the Shangri-La Toronto. He invited all the students to ”FindYourShangri - la” and be a part of the global Shangri-la Family!

Lumière: The Art of Light Is a fantastic outdoor light exhibition experience that guests will appreciate. It is a complimentary evening event from 7:00pm to 11:00pm and is a fascinating transformation of Trillium Park. This is open 7 nights a week throughout April until the 20th.

Miso Brownies Recipe By Pastry Chef Steven Tran
INGREDIENTS
• 1 cup plus 6 tablespoons (2 3/4 sticks) unsalted butter • 10 ounces dark chocolate • 3 to 5 ounces (1/3 to 1/2 cup) white miso paste, or to taste • 2teaspoonsvanilla extract • 2 cups sugar • 4 large eggs • 1 cup all-purpose flour • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Preheat the oven to 350 ° F. Set a rack in the center of the oven. Line a 9 by 13-inch baking pan with parchment paper. 2. Bring a small pot of water to a gentle simmer. Set a large heatproof bowl over the pot, making sure the bottom is not touching the water, and add the butter and chocolate. Melt, stirring occasionally, until smooth and glossy, about 5 minutes. (You can also do this in the microwave: heat the mixture in 20-second intervals, stirring between.) 3. Remove the bowl from the pot and stir in the miso paste, starting small and adding more to taste. (Remember that the saltiness will be muted by the addition of the sugar, eggs, and flour.) Stir in the vanilla. 4. In a separate large bowl, beat the sugar and eggs together with a balloon whisk (or an electric hand mixer) for about 5 minutes, until the mixture is densely foamy, thick, and almost doubled in volume. 5. Spoon a third of the beaten egg and sugar mixture into the chocolate mixture, stirring briskly. Slowly add the remaining egg mixture, folding it in with a rubber spatula to keep in as much air as possible. Once the batter is almost combined (there should still be a few streaks), sift in the flour and cocoa powder and gently fold until smooth.
