SOMETHING RATHER STYLISH IS HAPPENING IN BENDIGO. Maybe it’s the grand old buildings finding new life behind contemporary shopfronts. Maybe it’s the independent boutiques, vintage treasures and local makers bringing their own sense of style to the streets and laneways. Or maybe it’s simply that creativity has always had a way of finding its people here. Whatever it is, we’re having a moment. Look around and inspiration is everywhere. In the ornate details of our gold rush architecture. In the murals splashed across unexpected laneways. In the changing colours of the landscape with dusty ochres, ironbark greens, golden grasses and those enormous blue skies. In galleries, studios and shop windows, where old and new sit rather beautifully side by side. AND THEN THERE ARE THE PEOPLE. Our local retailers, designers, artists, makers and collectors have created a shopping scene that feels refreshingly individual. These are places with personality, filled with pieces chosen by people who genuinely love what they do. Places where you might walk in looking for nothing in particular and leave carrying the thing you didn’t know you needed. Perhaps that’s our Region’s particular kind of style. A little heritage. A little art. A little country. A little unexpected. And right now? It looks very good on us.
