MIYC October 2017

Marco Island Yacht Club

Bob Aylwin - Manager/Executive Chef

Ahoy Members of MIYC! Wow! There is so much to report that I'm not sure where to begin. First, there are lots of thank yous to go around. Let's begin with Mr. Everitt, Mr. DeFeo and Mr. McKeown for their tireless efforts during and after the "storm of the century." Also, I would like to thank Mr. Pittman and Mr. Richardson for their prompt response to the roofing issues caused by the storm. A shout out goes to Ms. Hamer for her updates and local reports after the storm. A grand thanks goes to Club staff member Pam, Kathy, Robert, Maritza, Nicolas and Mrs. McKeown for their most excellent job in refurbishing our dining room chairs and Harbor Room woodwork as well as several other projects. My daughter Sophia even pitched in for a couple of days! I have to say "Bravo!" to our new maintenance person Zach who's dedicated, efficient work after the storm has been key to us getting our operation up and running again so soon. (We had three banquets this week as well as a la carte dining for members) Thanks

to our IT man Dave Tomaino for his valuable input as well. If I have forgotten anyone I sincerely apologize. As many of you know we had a very aggressive list of things to accomplish during our scheduled two week Summer shutdown and, even

after falling behind a week due to our unfortunate weather, I am happy to say that we have made up a lot of ground and are confident that our list will be completed soon. Needless to say, it has been a trying two weeks after the storm. We have pulled together as a team and pushed forward with positive attitudes, and for that I am very thankful. See you at the Club soon. Chef Bob

Operations &HR IRMA really made a mess of our little paradise but we are rebounding quickly, although some might say not quite quick enough. Since everyone sustained some damage, some more than others; we just hope everyone made it through safely. MIYC sustained some damage and the entire team is working hard to clean-up from IRMA and catch up on the projects that were planned during the September closing. Jim Mckeown has done an outstanding job coordinating the building & grounds recovery from IRMA. The Dockside Lounge floor received major water damage and is being refurbished; just wait until you see the finished product. We hope to have the Dockside Lounge opened by mid-October. Jim is also pushing forward with finishing the Burgee Bar remodel, which is going to be amazing and should be open by late October. Also, much appreciation to Chip Pittman and his drone for checking the roof damage and immediately covering damaged areas to prevent further water damage. We have accomplished many of the planned September closing projects but still have a way to go with scheduled and IRMA projects. A special thanks to Pam Dorr and Maritza Torres for their dedication and hard work immediately following the hurricane. Chef Bob, Pam, Maritza, Zachary, Nicholas, Shannan, Kathy, Andrew, Lupe, Enol, Robert and Elaine all worked very hard to get the Club opened so we would not have to cancel the two banquets and wedding scheduled the week after IRMA hit. We even opened Thursday and Friday night for our members with over 50 members attending Friday night dinner. Kudos to our staff and special members who have stepped up to keep our MIYC going through a difficult time. We thank you all for your support. See you at the Club, Robert J DeFeo Operations and HR Committee Chairman Past Commodore
