Provide feedback to the participants on their awareness and abilities to tether hand tools and other relevant objects when working at height
The participants shall:
Ask questions and share experiences on risks posed by dropped objects
In a practical exercise with different hand tools and other relevant objects, individually point out the three following points:
a.
tethering point (on the tool)
b.
tether
c.
anchor point or attachment point
Take part in a discussion about hazards from adverse weather and environmental conditions that may impact the use of hand tools
Take active part in a discussion about mitigating actions and due diligence in relation to handling tools and items in adverse environmental conditions
During practical training scenarios and activities throughout the remainder of the course, ensure that hand tools and other relevant objects are tethered before working at height
Receive the instructor’s feedback and adjust the tethering accordingly
ELEMENT 7.2 - RISK REDUCTION
Learning objectives:
52) The participants can explain how to reduce the risk of dropping objects (Knowledge, intermediate level)
53) The participants can show interest and have awareness of tethering and safe working practices in demanding situations such as emergency procedures and drills, where tools and equipment may be hastily handled or misplaced (Ability, basic level)
54) The participants can take responsibility for identifying loose items that could potentially become a dropped object (Ability, intermediate level)
55) The participants can take responsibility for securing tools, equipment, accessories, minor components, items, and parts through appropriate transport methods and adequate storage away
