73) The participants can explain how the evacuation equipment is used (Knowledge, intermediate level)
74) The participants can perform the preparation of rescue or evacuation equipment for use, including applying personal fall protection prior to commencing evacuation (Skills, intermediate level)
The instructor shall:
Explain that pre-use inspection of the evacuation device may not be required, if it is permitted by the manufacturer’s user manual and the manufacturer criteria
Demonstrate how to perform a pre-use inspection of an evacuation device product, by covering the following principles:
a.
markings and labels
b. equipment is within the period of formal inspections
c. the rope has no damage and end terminations are in good condition
d. the rope runs freely through the device in both directions
e. checking integrity and the absence of, damage, corrosion, saltwater, chemical, lubricant, or dirt exposure or contamination
f. checking for the absence of significant wear of the device
g.
rope securing mechanism works correctly
h.
the product operating temperature range
Demonstrate how to prepare the equipment for use, including correct use of anchor points
Stress the generic approach in performing a pre-use inspection and using an evacuation device focusing on the similarities and differences in design, functionality, and operation between different products
Explain the potential task placed upon the participant in their own organisation on course completion, requiring them to familiarise themselves with other rescue or evacuation products
The participants shall:
Engage in discussion on how the evacuation equipment is used
