Participants practice reducing the risk of dropped objects throughout all rescue exercises
Note
The participants shall:
Engage and practise the correct and safe use of the evacuation or rescue devices, rescue devices in two active setup scenarios and one passive setup scenario, including:
a.
pre-use inspection
b.
correct and efficient use of anchor points
c.
correct behaviour on ladder with PFPE
Engage and practise how to safely and correctly use a rescue device in two active setup scenarios and one passive setup scenario, including:
a. rescue of both conscious and unconscious casualties
b. use of different attachment methods, such as fall arrest and work positioning lanyards
c. application of the hip overhang technique to move a casualty away from the ladder
d.
use of rope clamp equipment for an out-of-reach rescue
Practice how to safely transfer from one side of the ladder to the other
During rescue scenarios, participants not performing the exercise shall remain at ground level in a safe area, where they can practice setting up, rigging, and operating the rescue equipment. It is recommended that they familiarise themselves with the equipment during one exercise and observe another Participants acting as rescuer must use their work positioning lanyard correctly to secure themselves, leaving their hands free to handle the equipment and casualty. A rescue dummy may be used to simulate the casualty
Note
The instructor will inform participants whether the casualty is conscious or unconscious. Once lowered to a safe area, participants may demonstrate the recovery or seated position.
All required PFPE shall be worn. Methods to prevent suspension trauma shall also be demonstrated, building on the theory and supporting small-group discussions on available methods
