Chapter 17. The Rewards are Limitless

separate. I have evolved so much since we have been apart. I was able to reach inside and find why I made certain decisions and why I did certain things. In retrospect, I know I have become a better person because we parted. I learned the definition and importance of true communication in a relationship, and learned what not to do as well as what to do. You may wonder why Melissa and I are good friends. Why are we both able to enjoy our current lives? I’ve overcome all the obstacles involved because I used the lessons in this book to build my core. Today, Melissa’s family is still like my own and we all con- tinue to keep in touch. I want you to use everything I share with you in a positive light. I don’t focus on why this happened anymore. Whether it was 50% my fault or 100%my fault, I have to focus on how fortunate I was to have amazing people in my life who allowed me to grow, while I know I helped Melissa and her family grow as well. We helped each other financially, emotionally, and physically, and through it all we are still very close. We handled our great times as well as our not-so-great times. Remember, we are not typically judged by the things that are easy, but rather by how we deal with adversity. Thank you for letting me share that very personal side of my life. I shared that with you so you can avoid similar situations. Like I said at the beginning of this story, I watched my parents make these same mistakes yet I had to deal with the ups and downs of an important relationship myself to learn the impact of communica- tion. There is no reason you need to experience it for yourself if you have faith in my words and life lessons. I urge you to take a look at the relationships in your life and make sure you are repre- senting your thoughts and emotions honestly to a person you may love, a business partner, or maybe a friend or family member. A little communica- tion today can make for a lasting relationship. Mistakes are only a bad thing if you don’t learn from them. Mistakes are only a bad thing if you don’t learn from them.
