Chapter 21. Choose to Be Fulfilled

in a small town where everyone knew each other’s business. Even in small towns politics plays a part, and everybody had their opinions on how the town should evolve, yet most people just spewed lots of negative words, offered coffee house solutions, and had no desire to really help. So at a young age I decided that instead of just talking about helping our small town, I was going to do something. Within a few years I ended up being the youngest member of the town planning board. I helped start and became the co-chair- man of the town’s first Economic Development Committee. I played an active role in an organization that held fundraisers that donated their funds to help local people in need. I also became the secretary of a local governmental committee in our area. Yes, my life was busy, but I felt that if I was going to talk about anything wrong with the town then I had an obligation to be a part of the solution. So get out there and make it happen. Don’t be someone who just talks about making a change or wanting more in their life. There are talkers and doers in life. Be a doer, not a talker. If you have come this far in the book, you are a doer. Don’t let anything stop you from continuing on this path to another level of life. One of the simple truths I live by today is “Watch what people do, not what they say.” We live in a world of great starters and few finish- ers. If you’re one of those rare people who commit to do something, then also commit to finish and follow through. When you do, you’ll stand head and shoulders above the rest—and in the top 10% of society. Seeds of Greatness

“You can’t have the fruits without the roots. It’s the principle of sequencing: Private Victories precede Public Victories. Self mastery and self-discipline are the foundation of good relationships with others.” —Stephen Covey
