Chapter 23. Let Go of Your Past
I’m thankful I have the opportunity to re-invent myself every day if I so choose. You can choose to allow your past to hold you back, or you can make a decision to appreciate every experience you have had. Today you get to take control and change. If you take things that at one time you had an ill thought towards and spin them to empower you, then you will have sense of inner peace that no money could ever buy. So let’s be thankful for our past, good or bad. And let’s take any- thing you may harbor as a crutch and turn it into a positive thought that can help serve you on your journey. Embrace this incredible gift of being thankful. Here are a few that come to mind for me: ! I am so thankful that I had my grandmother in my life and for the lifelong gifts she gave me. ! I am so grateful that my mother showed me how to be compassionate to others and how to say “I love you” with- out hesitation. ! Thank you, Dad, for teaching me a strong work ethic and allowing me to learn through trial and error and not just words. You always allowed me to tell the truth, no matter what it was. That is a lesson that will last a lifetime. ! I am thankful to God for the amazing people that have come in and out of my life, and for giving me the skills to overcome obstacles and focus on solutions, and for allow- ing me to accomplish anything I put my mind to. ! I am thankful for every single person who has come into my life and the unique relationships I have shared with them. Each and every person has in one way or another affected my life, and I am grateful for that. Try it. It feels good. It can truly give you inspiration towards tomorrow.
